A guided walk focusing on mushrooms. Rain Date: Friday, July 30. Should we have to postpone we’ll let you know by phone on July 23.
Meet at the parking lot and amble through Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. We will see this season's early crop of fungal fruits, otherwise known as mushrooms. David Moon will share the basics of fungal biology, explain why fungi are the biological foundation of the forest, send you a bit off trail for a "mini-foray," and introduce you to the world of mushrooming for natural history interest and maybe even eventual culinary delight. As of the writing of this description, the spring has afforded us regular bouts of soaking rain. If that pattern holds up, we will see lots of fungi. Even if the woods dry out, this good, early start should mean some interesting fungus-finds!
Dress comfortably for an easy woodland walk with walking shoes, hat, bug spray, and sun screen.
