Village Talk: Food Insecurity in the Newburyport Area (12:00 PM)

Jane Merrow of the First Parish Newbury Food Pantry speaks on Food Insecurity in the Newburyport Area and the role of the Newbury Food Pantry in addressing this problem.

Since the pandemic began in the spring of 2020, the demand for food from the Pantry has increased tremendously and the Pantry now serves 250 to 300 people per week. Jane Merrow, who co-founded the Pantry with Sue Boccuzzo in 2015, speaks about how the Pantry has adapted to meet this need and about plans for addressing food insecurity in the future.

Please note: This event is open to the general public and follows Newburyport Senior Center Covid Guidelines. Participants need to be masked

Food Drive: The Newbury Food Pantry is an all volunteer organization based at the First Parish Church on High Road in Newbury; currently it is operating at 89 Hanover St. during the construction of a new building. It relies on donations and grants for revenue and purchases much of its food from the Greater Boston Food Bank.

Members attending the talk can support the Pantry by bringing donations of food and/or personal care items to the talk or dropping them off at the Senior Center that week. Items most needed include: pasta/rice side dishes (i.e. Knorr products), hearty soups (Progresso, Campbell), heat and serve meals such as beef stew or chili in cans or pouches, toilet paper, dish soap.
